Alexis Duque (b. 1971) was born in Medellin, Colombia. His works include paintings and drawings that generally focus on depicting ghettos, shantytowns and slums that are found in numerous developing countries, including his native Colombia. These precarious dwellings that often lack ceilings or facades overflow with a variety of furniture and other objects that result in a seemingly unending urban sprawl. His works explore perceptions of innocence and violence, transgression and balance, inspiring double takes from viewers. His work has been exhibited at El Museo del Barrio (New York), Museum of Latin American Art (Long Beach, CA), and Rudolf Gallery (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), among numerous other galleries.
